By looking at birds to another vision of leadership: winged leadership. The first edition of Winged Leadership was published in 2010. After observing the spoonbill, Ben Verleg wondered if he could find parallels between bird behavior and leadership styles. That yielded a dozen interesting stories and a self-test that answers the question: what kind of bird are you? After Ben Verleg (66) was told he was incurably ill, he wanted to rewrite and republish this book. By his own admission, this was one of the most enjoyable projects he has ever done. The particular context prompted a reflection on the interpretation of the final stage of life by Barbara van Beukering. She wrote the epilogue for this. Philosopher Ivo Brughmans wrote the foreword. Artist Lia Laimböck painted all the birds discussed especially for this edition.
Ben Verleg has combined years of management experience with independent research. In 2012 he obtained his doctorate with the thesis 'Meaning in Decision Making' for which his experience as a top advisor at the municipality of Amsterdam served as a starting point. He applied his experience and knowledge in a compact way to the interpretation of bird behavior.
